MWMAA Club Instructors
MWMAA have two type of instructors that can teach and assess the student. Club instructors are not MAAA instructors, but they can mentor and instruct a student until they believe they are ready to be assessed for their Silver or Bronze wing. Silver wings are for club fields while Bronze wings are for park flyers. MAAA instructors can teach and assess student so wing certification can be obtained.

Club Flying Instructors, Working Instruction
The club instructor is an integral part of any club with the task of promoting the sport of model aviation in a safe flying environment. They are not a qualified MAAA Instructor but have the experience and knowledge to assist the club in teaching new club members to safely fly a model aircraft. The instructor is normally the first person a potential new club member makes contact with and provides an insight on the operation and rules of the club. This includes basic understanding of CASA regulations and the MAAA Manual of Procedure (MOP) framework.
The club instructor provides a consistency on how training will be implemented over a period of time and supports/mentors the student. The ultimate goal is for the student to achieve their solo rating (Silver Wings) and be able to take part in club activities and events within any approved flying area.
Club Flying Instructor Criteria:
If the club committee accepts the nomination, the club committee will table the request at the next club general meeting and recorded within the meeting minutes and the MWMAA website will be updated The number of club instructors will be determined by the committee and will be reviewed on a regular basis.
Instructional Training Period
The time to train a new student to solo rating, will depend on the individual’s circumstance and time allocated. However, an allocation of 12 weeks (3 months) is considered sufficient time to achieve this outcome. A club instructor would assess the student on a regular basis and inform the club committee on his/her progress during this period.
The instructor will use and implement MAAA MOP016 Flight Requirement & Test Check Sheet Bronze/Silver Wings. The assessment forms can be downloaded from the MAAA Website. The instructor will determine if the student is ready to be assessed for their solo rating assessment.
Assessment and Testing
The Club Instructor will inform the club Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) that their student is ready to be assessed. The CFI will arrange for two MAAA Flying Instructors to assess the student using MOP016. If successful, the CFI or their representative will submit the completed MOP016 to the VMAA State Fling Instructor (SFI) via email or mail to be recorded within the MAAA Membership Registration system.
Arrangement should be made with the VMAA SFI for “wings and certificate” to be sent to the club Secretary so they can be awarded to the successful club member at an event nominated by the committee.
