Scale Event 12 Oct at BMMAA

PictureThis what scale is all about..... Hang on a minute, how did the 109 get in the shot...??
BMMAA was the host for the next VFSAA Scale event held on Saturday, 12 Oct. Last year we had a great event and fantastic weather. Unfortunately this year we were not that lucky. The wind started off OK, but by lunch time it was quite strong and it was obvious it was not going to calm down. One round was completed, but it was decided to stop the event and reduce the potential for damaging the models. We can always fly again another time.

We did have 13 starters and everyone that flew in the first round found it difficult, but were prepared to at least try. From BMMAA, we had Mark Peterson, Garry Thiele, Gary Sunderland and myself to give is a go. Hoping next time we do better with the weather. There is also a possibility of having two events at our field, but that has not been confirmed.

PictureBeautiful day in Melton. Good flying, great day
Well as we know the weather has been all over the place
and trying to get a day out to fly was like playing roulette. Lucky for us the
weather was great for a change and the Scale Group (VFSAA) had 20 flyers on the
day. From our Club to give it a crack, Peter Stefurak, Garry Thiele and Joe
Buttigieg took their places amongst the pack which was great to
see.
Peter flew in large Scale, while Garry  and Joe flew in Flying Only (ARF). All three gave themselves a good opportunities to mix in with the others and give some of the more experience pilots a little scare. Again, eyebrows were raised as the mighty Martians,  proved once again that we can mix it with the big
boys.

By the end of the day we had Peter  taken out second place in Large Scale while Garry took out the Encouragement  award for the day. Joe was in the middle of the pack as he improved on each  flight. Joe has only been to 3 events and is starting to get the points. More  practice will do it So well done to the guys for given is a shot and flying to their best. At the end of the day, it was an enjoyable day. Melton provided the Canteen so we were all well watered and feed.  Yours truly did not fly and took care of the admin side (someone has to do it).  Too many things going on. But roll on 2014. As one great man said……… it can only get better…. Ed

The VFSAA events are opened up to anyone who has a scale model and would like to
fly in competition. There are plenty of guys that will assist and offer help if
asked. The camaraderie and the love of flying scale models is common to
all.

So if you are interested, why not come along and have a
look. Catch you ad the field... Ed
